Rachel Blaney was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for North Island-Powell River (NDP) in 2015. She serves as Critic for Multiculturalism and Deputy Critic for Infrastructure and Communities. She has an office in Campbell River as well as an office in the House of Commons in Ottawa.

The Strathcona Regional District (SRD) is a federation of five municipalities and four electoral areas, providing nearly 43,000 residents with a diverse range of services including water and sewerage systems, fire protection, land use planning, parks, recreation and emergency response.

Sayward's rural properties fall within the SRD's Kyuquot/Nootka-Sayward area (Electoral Area 'A'). The current Area A Director is Gerald Whalley.

The Sayward library branch opened in 1971. The library branch moved to its current location on Kelsey Way in 1993.
