A building permit is required for any construction, addition, alteration, change of use or demolition of a building or structure located within the boundaries of the Village of Sayward.
Building permits are authorization from the Village to start a building project. Your permit plans must be reviewed to make sure they follow the BC Building Code, and the Village of Sayward Building Bylaw No. 334, and other regulations. Building permits make sure construction projects meet zoning requirements, fire and structural safety standards and other building standards required by the BC Building Code. Failure to get a building permit could result in costly delays, legal action and/or the removal of work already completed.
The owner of the property is responsible for obtaining a building permit. As the owner you can authorize your contractor to apply for a permit for you by completing an Agent Authorization Form. The owner must still ensure their contractor has the permit before starting work.
Every building permit fee will be subject to a plan processing fee, and a building permit fee. Water and sewer connection fees are also required to be paid at the time the building permit is issued.
