A draft Pest Management Plan has been prepared by the applicant for the purpose of vegetation management, using the principles of Integrated Pest Management. The plan applies to harvested areas within Mid Island’s Tree Farm License 39 Block 2. The proposed duration is from August 15, 2020 to August 14, 2025.
The closest community to the plan area is Sayward, which is protected within the herbicide exclusion zone (HEZ). The HEZ (9380 hectares) was developed in 2015 with input from Sayward and Campbell River residents and captures water intakes, the community watershed, the Salmon Brewster horse trail, and other areas of public sensitivity. Only non-chemical treatments will be conducted in this zone, except to treat invasive species.
The herbicides and application methods proposed for use under this plan include:
Triclopyr- Garlon XRT, Garlon RTU, Release, Release MSO
Glyphosate-VP480, VisionMax, Vision
Triclopyr application methods may include basal bark or cut stump.
Glyphosate application methods may include ground foliar spray or cut stump.
Non-chemical methods include manual girdling, mechanical cutting, manual cutting, stem bending, and pulling.
